MHS senior QB/DB Michael Robinson (5) was named to the North team for the Phil Simms North/South All-Star Classic, which will not be played in 2021.

While the game itself will be postponed for the second straight season as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, graduating senior quarterback/defensive back Michael Robinson was selected as an honorary member of the North team for the Phil Simms North/South All-Star Classic.

Robinson was one of 90 high school seniors from throughout the state of New Jersey selected for the prestigious all-star game based on a combination of on-field achievements and coach’s recommendation. The game, which is typically played the last week in June at Kean University, was canceled last month by the game’s organizers.

During the truncated 2020 season, Robinson was Montclair’s primary starting quarterback, throwing for 469 yards and 6 touchdowns. He also led the Mounties in rushing with 677 yards (just under 7.0 yards per carry) and 8 touchdowns. Robinson also caught five passes for 68 yards. The versatile senior was also pressed into service in Montclair’s defensive backfield, notching seven tackles and three pass breakups in limited action on that side of the ball.

The Paul Robeson East/West All-Star Football Classic has also been canceled for 2021 due to COVID concerns. MHS is expected to be represented in a virtual ceremony honoring this year’s senior all-stars from Essex, Hudson, Morris, Sussex and Passaic counties, which will take place at a date to be announced, organizers said.
