Rescheduled, again: Montclair-Ridgewood moved to Woodman Field

For the second straight week, the remnants of Hurricane Ida have forced a change in location for the Montclair High football team’s upcoming game.

Due to significant damage at Ridgewood High School’s field following the flooding rains that came with last week’s storm, the Montclair-Ridgewood game scheduled for this weekend will now be played at Woodman Field this Saturday, Sept. 11. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.

The game had originally been scheduled for Friday night, Sept. 10, in Ridgewood.

Ridgewood officials said after the storm hit Sept. 1-2 that it would be “several weeks” before the fields at RHS would be usable.

The Maroons did not play this past weekend and will be opening up their season Saturday.

Saturday’s game will mark the 39th all-time meeting between Montclair and Ridgewood, in a series that dates back to 1925. Most of those contests came when the two schools were members of the old NNJIL, including the most recent regular-season meeting in 2008.

The Mounties and Maroons have been two of the top Group 5 programs in North Jersey for most of the past decade, and the teams have had a fierce rivalry in the state playoffs in that time. They played each other in the playoffs seven times in nine years from 2010 to 2018, including a pair of sectional finals (2013, won by Montclair, and 2018, won by Ridgewood).

Montclair leads the all-time series 25-13, though Ridgewood did win the most recent meeting (27-7 in the 2018 sectional final).
